At our facility, we use Low-Dose CT technology. Our advanced Siemens systems are designed to use the minimum amount of radiation necessary to achieve crystal-clear results. While CT scans do use more radiation than a standard X-ray, the diagnostic benefit of a quick, accurate result almost always outweighs the minimal risk. 

In some cases, a "contrast agent" (usually iodine-based) is used to highlight blood vessels or specific organs. This can be taken orally or via an IV. It helps certain tissues show up more clearly on the scan. If your scan requires contrast, we will review your medical history and kidney function beforehand to ensure it's safe for you. 

One of the biggest advantages of CT is its speed. The actual scanning process usually takes less than 60 seconds. Including the time it takes to get you positioned on the table and set up the equipment, you can expect to be in the scanning room for about 10 to 15 minutes total. 

You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing without metal zippers, snaps, or buttons. Depending on the area being scanned (specifically the abdomen or pelvis), we may ask you to fast for 4 hours prior to your appointment. Our scheduling team will provide specific instructions based on the type of scan your doctor has ordered.
